Get Housed with Habitat for Humanity is a bi-weekly radio show that discusses, among other issues:

  • general information about Habitat
  • upcoming Habitat activities and events
  • what’s going on at our construction site and in the ReStore
  • local and national affordable housing issues
  • and how volunteers help us build homes and general volunteer opportunities

Get Housed airs every other Thursday at 3:00PM on Jackson Hole Community Radio, KHOL 89.1FM. Each episode focuses on a different topic and features an interview with a guest about the topic.

Episode 20- Volunteering at the ReStore. Aired March 4, 2010. Discusses how volunteers help the ReStore and features two interviews. The first is with Lynnette Gaertner, an AmeriCorps*VISTA ReStore Associate who helps lead ReStore Volunteers. The second is with Janice Wilbur, a dedicated ReStore volunteer.

Episode 19- Green Drinks and RRR Business Leaders.. Aired February 18, 2010. April Hankey, Projects & Operations Manager for the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce speaks with us about Green Drinks JH and the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Business Leaders Program.

Episode 18- Home Fire Safety. Aired February 4, 2010. Discusses home fire safety, carbon monoxide poisoning, and radon. Features and interview with Brian Coe, who is a Fire Inspector for Jackson Hole Fire/EMS

Episode 17- Green Building. Aired January 21, 2010. Discusses the Wyoming Chapter of the US Green Building Council, which is best known for spearheading LEED green building standards. Features an interview with two leaders of the Wyoming Chapter of the US Green Building Council, Jason Dunlop and Brendan Schulte.

Episode 16- Energy Sustainability. Aired January 7, 2010. Discusses the Jackson Hole Energy Sustainability Project. Features an interview with two of the project’s leaders, Jackson Mayor Mark Barron and Sarah Flitner, who is an adviser to the Energy Sustainability Project.

Episode 15- Do It Yourself Door Installation Tips. Aired December 17, 2009. David Yogg, a ReStore associate and professional carpenter, provides tips on installing doors in your home.

Episode 14- The State of the Local Real Estate Market. Aired December 3, 2009. Discusses the state of the Teton County housing market. Features an interview with local real estate agents, Sarah Kerr and Bomber Bryan, about opportunities for buyers in the market.

Episode 13- Housing Authority. Aired November 19, 2009. Provides an overview of the Teton County Housing Authority, our local government agency responsible for affordable housing. Features an interview with Stacey Stoker, Communications Director for the Teton County Housing Authority about the Housing Authority’s application process, and about the units that were or soon would be available to eligible applicants.

Episode 12- Weatherization. Aired November 5, 2009. Discusses steps you can take to weatherize your home for winter and the benefits you can receive through weatherization. Features an interview with ReStore Manager Jake Bynum about specific weatherization activities.

Episode 11- HalloWine. Aired October 22, 2009. Discussed HalloWine, a wine tasting event held at the ReStore on October 24, 2009 by Habitat DIGS in partnership with The Liquor Store. Features an interview with Stephan Abrams from The Liquor Store about Hallowine, some wines that would be featured and why working in partnership with Habitat on a fundraiser is important to the Liquor Store.

Episode 10- Unique Projects Using the Restore. Aired October 1, 2009. Discusses interesting projects where people are re-using through the Restore. Features an interview with Gordo Richman, who is building his own house in Idaho using a lot of ReStore materials. This episode also has an interview with Nicole Burdick, who was one of the artists who up-cycled a ReStore chair into useable art for our DIG Up New Art from an Old Chair Project. The chairs from this project were featured at the DIGS Membership Kickoff Event on August 26, 2009.

Episode 9- Habitat Homeowner Selection. Aired September 17, 2009. Explains how Habitat selects families for homeownership and what occurs in the time period from once a family is selected until they move into their home. Features an interview with Timberly Taggart and her son Tristan, who moved into their Habitat home on October 4, 2009.

Episode 8- Global Village. Aired September 3, 2009. Discusses Habitat for Humanity International’s Global Village program and the trip Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Teton Area has planned for April 2010 to Nayarit, Mexico. Features an interview with Lara Volovsek, Habitat’s Business Development Manager, who is one of the co-leaders of the trip.

Episode 7-DIGS Membership Kickoff Event. Aired August 20, 2009. Highlights the DIGS membership kickoff event, which was held on August 26, 2009 at Lyndsay McCandless Contemporary. Features an interview with Lyndsay McCandless about her support of the DIGS kickoff event, as well as her goal to link the arts with community non-profits.

Episode 6- Habitat Home Construction.

Aired July 30, 2009. Explains how Habitat builds homes with volunteer labor. Features interviews with Habitat’s Construction Manager, Trace Wright, and construction volunteers Steve Comeau and Sarah Kerr.

Episode 5- Homeownership. Aired July 2, 2009. Discusses the benefits homeownership provides to homeowners, the need for affordable homeownership in Teton County, and providesbackground on the affordable housing agencies that working locally. Features interviews with Katie Murphy, a Housing Authority Homeowner, Emma Franzein, a Housing Trust homeowner, and Dawn Webster, a Habitat homeowner.

Episode 4- AmeriCorps. Aired June 28, 2009. Discusses AmeriCorps, a national service organization similar to the Peace Corps that works within the United States. Features an interview with four AmeriCorps*VISTA members serving in Teton County; Breezy Salmonsen and Marissa Bond, who worked for the Teton Literacy Program, and Mike Samuels and Dani Slabaugh, who worked with us at Habitat for Humanity. In this episode we also interviewed Terri Marino, Habitat’s executive director, about being a sponsor agency for AmeriCorps VISTAs and how Americorps has helped Habitat over the years.

Epsiode 3- DIGS. Aired June 4, 2009. Introduces Habitat’s new social group, DIGS! Features an interview with our DIGS founding members, Lindsey Nickel, Katie Colbert, and Alison Nestel Patt.

Episode 2- The ReStore. Aired May 14, 2009. Focuses on the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, it’s positive impacts on our community, and the ReStore Grand Re-Opening on Saturday, May 16. 2009. Features an interview with Jake Bynum, the ReStore Manager.

Episode 1- Women Build. Aired April 30, 2009. Discusses Habitat’s Women Build Program, our May 9, 2009 Women Build Day, and features an interview with volunteer crew leader Rachel Posthumus.
