| Green Building Initiative: |
| Habitat for Humanity
is nearing completion of first “green” affordable home as part of its initiative to promote affordable green building in Teton County. |
| |
| “Keeping homes affordable over the long-term is our number one priority,” says Habitat Executive Director, Terri Marino. “While we already take measures to build energy-efficient homes and often use recycled materials from our ReStore in our homes, we know we can further reduce energy costs for our future homeowners by building smarter.” |
| |
| Habitat has been working with volunteer construction and engineering professionals with expertise in green-building to establish standards that will be used in the construction of future Habitat homes. In addition to building more energy-efficient homes, Habitat hopes its efforts will play a role in educating the community about green-building. |
| |
“We see the Habitat jobsite as a place where people can learn about green building materials and techniques while contributing to their community,” says Jon Christensen, Habitat Board Member and Chairman of Habitat’s ‘Green Team’. “Giving people a chance to get hands on experience helps promote sustainable construction in our valley.”
