Habitat for Humanity to Benefit from Teton Green Building Conference

JACKSON, Wyoming - May 20, 2005 - Habitat for Humanity will participate in the 2nd annual Teton Green Building Conference, which runs from May 25th to the 27th and will be held at Jackson Lake Lodge in Grand Teton National Park. This move is part of Habitat’s initiative to construct affordable, green homes in Teton County.

Habitat for Humanity will benefit from a reception and silent auction held on Thursday, May 26th at 6:00 pm, which will feature green building education talks by Randy Udall, from Colorado's Community Office of Resource Efficiency, and Steve Andrews, an energy consultant who works with Colorado’s home energy rating system. Local green building projects in the Teton area will also be highlighted, including presentations about the Teton Science School, an innovation in fly-ash construction used by the Bridger-Teton National Forest, and Habitat for Humanity’s first green affordable housing project. Tickets are available at the door for $35 and New Belgium beer and appetizers will be served.

The Teton Green Building Conference will include workshops about building for health and environment in colder climate homes, schools and communities. Keynote and workshop topics include sustainable and affordable housing solutions, building science, LEED schools and buildings that teach, day-lighting, integrated design, building for health naturally, community resource efficiency, and selling green buildings to partners and customers. For more information about the conference, visit www.tetongreenbuilding.com or contact John Gitchell at 970-328-6449.

Habitat for Humanity builds homes with those in need in Teton County. Homes are built by volunteers and are then sold to pre-selected partner families with a no-interest, no-profit mortgage. Homeowners are required to contribute 500 hours of “sweat equity” to their home before they are allowed to move in. In addition to building more energy-efficient homes, Habitat hopes its efforts will play a role in educating the community about green-building.
