| Building
on a Dream in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King

January 4, 2007 - Jackson Hole, Wyoming –
For the Habitat for Humanity staff, Martin
Luther King Jr. Day will be a “day on, not a day
off” and they hope community members will join
them for a ‘Building on a Dream’ home build in
honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
On Monday, January 15, 2007, the Habitat staff
will answer Dr. King’s famous quote, “Life's
most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What
are you doing for others?’” by volunteering this
day to help paint the interior of a new Habitat
home for a deserving local family.
The King Day of Service, an act formally passed
by Congress in 1994, is intended to break down
barriers and bring people together who might not
ordinarily meet to help out in their
communities. “I see working with people of
different ages and backgrounds on a home for one
of our neighbors in need as a great way to honor
the spirit of Dr. King’s message,” said Terri
Marino, Executive Director of Habitat for
Humanity of the Greater Teton Area. “We hope
others will join us in remembering the life and
legacy of Dr. King by doing something that helps
others and strengthens our community.”
The Habitat construction site is located at 3915
W. Andersen Lane in the Millward Subdivision,
next to Calico Restaurant, and the build will
start at 9:00 am with a brief presentation about
Dr. King. Lunch will be provided for all
volunteers. To sign up with Habitat for
Building on a Dream, call 734-0828 ext. 5 or
send us an email.
Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Teton Area
builds simple, decent homes and sells them at
cost with a no-interest loan to low-income
families. Homeowners are chosen based on their
need for housing, their ability to make a
mortgage payment, and their willingness to
invest 500 hours of ‘sweat equity’ into the
construction of their home. Habitat homes are
built primarily by volunteers and with the
support of local donors. |
