Habitat for Humanity to host Women Build Event in the spirit of Mother's Day

JACKSON, Wyoming - August 23, 2004 - Habitat for Humanity in Jackson, Wyoming is pleased to announce the completion of its sixth home in Teton County. The sixth home is located in Melody Ranch, and the keys will be turned over to the new owners, Jose & Carolina Martinez of Jackson, WY, on Thursday, August 26 at 6:00 pm at a home dedication event that the public is encouraged to attend.

Mr. & Mrs. Martinez own of the Mexican food store, Guadalupana, located behind Foodtown. The Martinez’s have three children - Ismael, Leyla and Jacobo - and are excited to finally be moving into a simple and affordable place they can call home.

Habitat completed two other homes earlier this summer that are also located in Melody Ranch, and are now proudly owned by Robin Allison and her son, Benner, and Sue Hicks and her daughter, Janelle, and son, Jared. The first three Habitat homes were built in the Sage Meadows subdivision in 2000.

The materials and professional labor for two of the three homes completed this summer were paid for by donations from past Old Bill’s Fun Runs. Money for a third home was also raised last year through Old Bill’s and Habitat broke ground on that home in June.

"We’re so thankful to the donors who continue to include us in their giving each year," says Executive Director, Terri Marino. "Old Bill’s is an amazing opportunity for us to fund the construction an entire house through one event... We’re planning to finish our third Old Bill’s Home this winter and hope to raise enough money this year to break ground on Old Bill’s Home 4 this fall."

Volunteers are an integral component of Habitat’s program. It takes approximately 3,000 volunteer hours to construct a home, and Habitat receives support from a number of individuals and businesses that donate or discount their professional labor. Marino says, "The level of community support we receive is unbelievable. Volunteers do everything from planning fundraisers to putting up walls. It is only with their support that we can keep our houses affordable."

Habitat invites volunteers, donors and anyone interested in learning more about Habitat to attend the home dedication this Thursday, August 26 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. It will be held at 4132 Mustang Drive in Melody Ranch. Directions can be found at Habitat’s website, www.tetonhabitat.org, or by calling 734-0828.
