Habitat for Humanity Breaks Ground on Old Bill's Home 3

JACKSON, Wyoming - February 19, 2004 - Bresnan Communication Advertising Sales team from Montana and Wyoming will take a break from their annual meeting in Jackson to lend a hand to Habitat for Humanity.

On Wednesday, May 26th at 5:30 p.m., Habitat for Humanity will celebrate the ground breaking for Old Bill’s Home III, a home built with funds donated to Habitat through last year’s Old Bill’s Fun Run for Charities. There is a twist however with this ground breaking. Habitat’s construction is ahead of schedule so this ground breaking ceremony is quickly turning into a ground blessing ceremony.

“The good news is that we are ahead of schedule,” commented Executive Director Brendan McDermott. “Normally a ground breaking ceremony takes place overlooking a piece of untouched land, but with a few things going ahead of schedule, we may need to turn this into a ground blessing ceremony as the ground may already be broken.”

The home represents the 7th home to be built by Habitat for Humanity in Teton County and the third home built with funds exclusively from an Old Bill’s Fun Run. Ingrid Watsabaugh of Jackson and her family have been selected to purchase the home from Habitat when completed. Over the next few months, Ingrid and her family will be completing at least 500 hours of “sweat equity” on their home to fully qualify to purchase the home from Habitat.

According to McDermott, it is a celebration of and for our community, “Habitat for Humanity is simply an extension of our community. When Habitat begins a home, the community begins a home. It is the community of Jackson that donates the money to build the home through general donations and Old Bill’s Fun Run. It is also our community that comes to volunteer and build the home. This is really a celebration of and for our entire community.”

The entire community is invited to Habitat’s celebration, whether it will be a ground breaking or a ground blessing, on May 26th at 5:30 p.m. in Melody Ranch. For directions to the celebration, contact Habitat for Humanity at 734-0828.

Habitat for Humanity builds homes with those in need in Teton County. Homes are built by volunteers and are then sold to pre-selected partner families with a no-interest, no-profit mortgage to ensure low monthly payments. Homeowners are required to contribute 500 hours of their own “sweat equity” on their home before they are allowed to move in. Habitat also runs the Habitat ReStore, which sells used and surplus building supplies, to help fund the building of Habitat homes. For more information about homeownership, how to volunteer, donate and/or become a house sponsor with Habitat for Humanity, contact Brendan at 734-0828.
