Donate a Car to Cars For Homes - Habitat for Humanity’s Car Donation Program
If you have an older car, truck, van, trailer, RV or boat taking up valuable space, please consider donating it to Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Teton Area’s Cars for Homes program.
Car donations support Habitat for Humanity’s local and global mission of eliminating poverty and substandard housing and providing simple, decent homes for families in need. Cars for homes saves you the time and energy of finding a buyer.
To donate a car, truck, boat or RV to Cars for Homes™ – Habitat’s official car donation program, call (877) 277-4344 toll free or visit www.carsforhomes.org and let us take care of the rest. It’s a convenient way to support Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Teton Area and create more space in your driveway!
Administered by Habitat for Humanity International, Cars for Homes provides another way to support building affordable houses in Teton County by donating cars, trucks, boats, RVs, motorcycles or other vehicles. Funds raised from the sale of your vehicle donation—less applicable program, processing, towing and auction fees—are distributed directly to Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Teton Area affiliate to help build homes in partnership with low-income families.
What types of vehicle donations are accepted?
Habitat’s Cars for Homes car donation program accepts almost all vehicles. You can donate cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, snowmobiles, trailers and recreational vehicles. Airplane and boat donations may require a phone call to see if they meet the minimum criteria.
What if the vehicle is not running?
Your vehicle donation does not have to be running, but it must be whole and have four inflated tires so it can be moved by our towing operators. You will be asked to explain the condition of the vehicle. In rare cases, Cars for Homes is unable to accept some car donations when the cost of transport and processing fees exceed the auction value of the vehicle.
How long will it take to have my vehicle picked up?
All car donations made to Cars for Homes are processed as quickly as possible. Typically the vehicle is picked up within two or three days after the title is received by our processing center in Rhode Island. You can accelerate the car donation process by inputting information and downloading documents online. Special arrangements can be made whenever car donations must be made more quickly.
What documents do I need to donate a car?
Most states require a clear title to the vehicle, and some states also require a notarized signature or additional forms to complete a vehicle donation. If you cannot locate or have lost the certificate of title, we can help you obtain the proper documentation and forms.
What if the vehicle is not registered in my name?
The vehicle does not need to be registered in your name. The name on the title may often differ from the name on the registration documents. Call Cars for Homes at 877-277-HFHI (4344) for more information.
How much of the money generated by the sale of my car donation goes to Cars for Homes?
Cars for Homes strives to run the most efficient vehicle donation program in the country. We take very seriously our responsibility to be good stewards of all car donations. On a monthly basis, our program has historically received more than 80 percent of the sales revenues. We have paid less than 20 percent of the selling price for towing, auction and processing fees. By comparison, some charities pay third-party, for-profit vehicle donation programs up to 70 percent in fees.
How do I know my vehicle is in good hands once it’s been picked up?
Habitat for Humanity uses a licensed and insured national transportation network and complies with all federal and state regulations. By signing the title directly to Advanced Remarketing Services, Habitat for Humanity’s nationally authorized agent, you are legally transferring ownership of your vehicle. When your title is received and your vehicle is picked up, you are no longer responsible for the vehicle.
