About Teton Habitat

Everyone deserves a decent place to live

Founded in 1995, Teton Habitat builds truly affordable homes in the Greater Teton Area.

We strengthen our community by building simple, decent homes in partnership with hardworking families in need and people from all walks of life.

As a 100% community-based and community-funded nonprofit, we are proud to build homes for individuals and families living and working in Teton County, Wyoming making between 30-80% of Area Median Income. We are the only housing organization in the community exclusively providing housing for this segment of our community. According to the Teton Region Housing Needs Assessment, 43% of households in our community are earning 80% of AMI or less (as of 2023 that is $102,160 for a family of four).

Values

Focus on shelter

Advocate for affordable housing

Promote dignity and hope

Support sustainable and transformative development

Homeowner Criteria

Partner homeowners are chosen based on three key criteria:

1) need for housing

2) willingness to partner with Habitat

3) ability to pay their Habitat home mortgage

All applicants are screened for credit history, criminal background, and citizenship or permanent resident status.

When selected, our partner homeowners invest at least 500 hours of labor, or "sweat equity," in building their homes and those of their neighbors, and also attend over 25 hours of homeowner education courses to prepare them for successful ownership. The Habitat program is a hand up, not a handout.

Non-Proselytizing Policy

Habitat for Humanity and its affiliate organizations will not proselytize. Nor will Habitat work with entities or individuals who insist on proselytizing as part of their work with Habitat. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must adhere to or convert to a particular faith or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.
