| Habitat homes are modest, well-built homes constructed by volunteers and financed primarily by private donations. Government funding is used only to subsidize land purchases and infrastructure development. A committee of volunteers selects families based on their need for housing, ability to pay and willingness to partner with Habitat.
Habitat sells homes at cost and provides a zero interest loan. The monthly mortgage on a $100,000 home ranges from $400 to $500 a month, depending on the length of the loan, which includes taxes, insurance, homeowners dues, and a land lease. The land is deed restricted and held by Habitat, thereby ensuring permanently affordable housing
for our community. |
